When to Book Your Newborn Photoshoot in London

A Calm Guide for Growing Families
If you're currently expecting, this guide will help you understand when to reserve your newborn session and how Pennypics plans flexibly around your due date.
Every newborn is unique, but there are ideal timings for different types of portraits.
Whether you are planning ahead or your baby is already here, this guide will help you navigate those earliest days with calm clarity.
The Ideal 5–14 Day Window -
Sleepy Newborn Poses in London

Often called the "sleepy newborn stage", this window (between 5 and 14 days after birth) is ideal for gently posed photos.
Babies tend to be sleepier, curlier, and easier to position naturally and safely.
It’s also when those fleeting details—soft wrinkles, tiny toes, and peaceful expressions—are most evident.
If you're still expecting:
I recommend reserving your session during pregnancy, ideally from 20 weeks onward.
We’ll pencil in your due date and confirm the session time once your baby arrives.
Capturing Beautiful 'Awake & Curious' Newborn Photos (3–6 Weeks)

Beyond Two Weeks: Still Beautiful, Just a Bit Different
Did life move quickly after birth? That’s okay.
From around 3 to 6 weeks, your baby may be more alert and curious. This is what I call the "awake and connected" stage—where photos are a little more natural, expressive, and emotion-led.
While they may not curl up quite the same way, we capture:
-
Early eye contact
-
Gentle swaddles
-
Soft cuddles with you and your partner
-
The beginnings of those unforgettable little expressions
Sessions are relaxed and baby-led.
I always follow your baby's rhythm—whether they need a feed, a pause, or extra cuddles.
And yes, even at this stage, the results can be incredibly moving.
Addressing Skin Blemishes in Your Baby's Portraits
Little Flakes, Redness or Baby Acne? No Stress.
Newborn skin is wonderfully delicate—and often imperfect.
It’s common to see:
-
Baby acne
-
Flaky skin on hands and feet
-
Slight redness or blotches
I photograph your baby in soft, natural light and flattering angles.
In post-production, I use gentle, meticulous editing that keeps your baby’s authentic features intact—while softening anything temporary or distracting.
